Playing with White Space on Cards

Happy Birthday White Space Card

Hey There!

I’ve really been trying to experiment with leaving more white space on my cards.

I am so used to covering the whole back ground with patterned paper.

Many of the cards and even scrapbook pages have lots of beautiful white space.

White Space Thank you card

For both of these cards, I used Close To My Heart stamps from my stash.

I can’t get enough of these layered flower stamps.

I’m still loving the Blossoms paper pack as well. Also it helps that I already have that pile of scraps out and ready to go!

I love the simplicity of the black outline on white background.

The Thank You card uses a spotlight technique. I stamped the back ground in black outline and popped card stock that matched up with the background, but had color added.

The Happy Birthday card is actually from an idea for a scrapbook layout I adjusted to fit onto a card.

White space is really starting to grown on me. It takes me a little bit to get my head around “less is more” for cards, but I’m starting to like it!

Little Ninjas Card

Ninja Agenda Colored ninjas flat lay

Hey There!

Mama Elephant just recently released these super duper cute ninja stamp set with coordinating dies. The set is called Little Ninja Agenda.

So many of my stamps are floral, fairies, or unicorns that my son doesn’t really feel inspired to play with paper with me.

The second I saw these stamps I know I had to have them! I actually made sure to be on the site first thing on the day they were released. I bought them while I was waiting for the bus with my kids. My son was very excited.

I mean, look at these guys.

Keeping with my white space practice, I random stamped the little cuties in black on white card stock. For the section behind the colored ninjas I just random stamped the little ninja star.

I chose four ninjas (there are so many to choose from on this set!) to color for this card.

To make the colored ninjas stand out even more I placed them on colored circles to match each of their colors.

The card needed just a bit more color so I ran my markers around the outside of the stamped card stock in a repeating patterned.

Most of the cards I had seen make with these were story building style cards. I haven’t done a lot of story building yet so, I went with my more familiar card style. Not sure what this style is called?

You’ll notice that I did not fussy cut these little guys! This is the first stamp set that I bought the coordinating dies to go with it. I do love fussy cutting, but using the dies were pretty convenient!

This was also my very first Mama Elephant purchase. I’ll be making more for sure. They have so many cute stamps. I think my next might be the dinosaurs to add to my growing “boyish” stamps. I don’t typically believe in boy vs. girl things, but my son doesn’t like fairies and does like ninjas and dinosaurs!

Unicorn Springy Card

Hey There!

Unicorn Picnic and Reveal Wheel card

I’m just posting this fun card I made real quick here.

I used the Lawn Fawn Unicorn Picnic stamp set and the Reveal Wheel Lawn Cuts die with the Unicorn Picnic Add On.

The back ground is done with Distress Ink.

You can’t tell from the picture, but the unicorn on the bottom is on a spring so she jiggles and wiggles around when the card is moved. She’s just really excited.

As the the Reveal Wheel is turned, the faces on the cloud change. All happy faces of course!

Please stop by my Instagram @emmaheartspaper to see the Reveal Wheel and springy unicorn in action!

Blossoms Gate Fold with Slider Card

Hey there!

I have been really enjoying the Close To My Heart Blossoms paper that they brought back recently. I have a bunch of scraps of it (from the first release) in my scrap pile.

The tag that I created a few days ago (see it here!) made me feel so gosh darn springy, I decided to make a matching card.

This was very simple, except for fussy cutting all the flowers out!

I really enjoy fussy cutting, it relaxes me like adult coloring books do for some people. Sometimes I’ll fussy cut stamped images I have a matching die for!

In the sprit of honestly, I accidentally smeared a little ink on the inside of the card. Luckily there is no such thing as mistakes in card making, so I just covered it with card stock with a patterned mat. This makes a cute place to sign the card!

Thanks for checking in here at Emma Hearts Paper. Hope to see you here again soon!

Embossed Vellum Floral Card

Hey There!

white embossed flower on vellum with background colored on card

I’m just going to share this creation real quick today.

I’ve been on a Close To My Heart Blossoms Paper Pack kick lately. I’ve got a pile of scraps that are just too pretty to go unused, so I’m making lots of cards.

This card has a stained glass vellum technique that I’d never tried before. It is very very simple!

After I heat embossed the stamp with white onto vellum, I used CTMH markers to color on the back of the vellum where I wanted the color to show.

I love how soft the colors look showing through the vellum.

I’d really like to experiment with this technique some more. It is such a quick and simple way to make add a bit of soft color.
