Three Stamp Challenge

Hey There!

tag with fairies, flowers and word background created by using three randomly selected stamp sets

My kids do this thing called the Three Marker Challenge, where they randomly choose three markers and have to color or draw a picture using only those three markers.

To help inspire me, I took a page from their book this weekend. I pulled three random stamp sets out of my bins to make a tag. I knew I was choosing a background, a floral and and a misc stamp set. I did not randomly choose the colors I had to use, I intentionally picked the yellow and the blue. I think that would be a fun thing to add to this challenge in the future.

All the sets are retired Close To My Heart stamp sets I have in my stash.

These are not sets I would have ever used together, but I am happy how it turned out.

Second Generation Technique

The flowers, I think they are daffodils, are a fun layering stamp. I stamped the solid base of the flower by doing a second generation stamp. Second generation is done by inking up the stamp and stamping on a scrap piece of paper first. Then without re-inking the stamp, stamp the image on your project. The image will be in a lighter shade.

I then stamped the second layered stamp on top of flower base in the same color, but as a first generation. You can see the lighter yellow and darker yellow on each flower. This was done with the same ink pad.

The flowers were randomly stamped on the back ground of the tag and three were stamped on scrap paper and fussy cut.

In addition to the flowers, the background also has a small decorative swirly stamp, from the fairy stamp set, that I stamped in blue. I stamped the words in black over the top of the flowers and swirly.

I have actually never used the word background before! There is another background stamp in that set I typically use. I thought the words like “together”, “embrace” and “devoted” went very well with this fairy couple.

The fairy couple are part of a stamp set that I got when I first started paper crafting. This is one of my first, and still one of my favorite stamps! I used Spectrum Noir TriBlend Brushes to color them.

It is hard to tell from the picture, but the fairy couple and the flowers are attached using various thicknesses of 3D foam adhesive strips.

I certainly think I will try this three stamp challenge again. It helped me feel more inspired and work with stamps I wouldn’t have normally used.

It is a good way to practice trying new things and creating out of my comfort zone. Next time I may do three random colors on any stamps sets of my choosing, or maybe even doing both three random stamps and random colors!

Matching Card and Tag

Hey There!

matching tag and card with vellum over flower background with three spotlight squares with flowers on top

If you seen any of my previous posts you’ll know that I’ve only been creating using supplies in my stash.

This card and tag set is no different. I was very happy when I found these scraps from Close To My Heart. The colors and big flowers make me so very happy.

Since I happened to have a piece of vellum within arms reach of me at the time, I also incorporated vellum into the mix!

If I had to choose one embellishment to use for the rest of my lift it would be these little gems. But, for some reason I haven’t been using them on my cards!

You can see I certainly made up for it on this card.

Because I’m a firm believer in “there are no mistakes in scrapbooking” I’ll tell you that two of these gems are covering a smudge because I had wet glue on my fingers 😉

Pokemon Mice Card- Lawn Fawnatics Challenge 97

Lawn Fawn Mice colored as pokemon characters

Hey There!

Lawn Fawn has their Lawn Fawnatics Challenge 97 going on right now. The theme is movie, song, or book!

At my house there is always a Pokemon show or movie on my tv. My son loves loves loves Pokemon.

I colored some of the mice from Bubbles of Joy stamps and Lawn Cuts coordinating dies to look like a few favorite characters.

For little Bulbasaur I use two of the hearts from the set and created this little plant pod on his back.

The Pokeball is one actually made of two of the bubble stamps. The large bubble with one of the smaller ones on the inside.

Charmander mouse is breathing fire and has a flame on his tail from the Little Dragon Set. The word “Adventure” is also from that set.

The other words are from Unicorn Picnic.

Lawn Cuts Stitched Hillside Borders and the Cloudy Stencil make up the background. I used Distress Oxide Tumbled Glass with the stencil. The grassy hills use Distress Oxide Rustic Wilderness and Bundled Sage.

Each little mouse, bubble and Pokeball is colored with Spectrum Noir TriBlend Brush alcohol markers. The Pikachu was actually colored with Copics because there is no good yellow in the TriBlend Brushes.

Other than the lack of yellow, I’m in love with the TriBlends Brushes. Having three shades in one marker is great!

I’m am so pleased with how this card turned out. My son was pretty impressed as well 😉

Thanks so much for stopping by to check out my Lawn Fawnatics Challenge entry!

Sunflowers In Denim Card

Sunflowers in denim pocket

Hey There!

I’ve got another card made using papers and stamps from my Close To My Heart stash!

This time I’ve stamped these build-able layered sunflowers. They are fussy cut, you know how I love my fussy cutting, and arranged in this layered denim pocket stamp.

For the pocket I used blue Distress Inks on the paper and stamped onto of that. Otherwise, there would have been some white showing on the pocket. This seemed to give it a much more denim feel.

It was my first time using Distress Inks! Another thing that became popular between by first scrapbooking days and now. I’ll be playing with these more.

Sunflowers are one of my favorite flowers. I wish we didn’t have to wait until Fall to see them!

Even though they aren’t a spring flower, these sunflowers give me hope for warmer sunnier days.

We’ve still got snow cover, although our days are getting warmer so the end is in sight!

Thanks for stopping by!

Happy Stamping!

Always Be A Unicorn card

Hey There!

This is the card that almost wasn’t!

Last night I knew I really wanted to use this Close To My Heart unicorn stamp set from my stash, along with these pretty papers.

I thought I was going to use pink and purple Distress Oxide, embossing powder and or embossing glitter.

I stamped and cut and heat embossed. I cleaned up glitter when I let out the breath I was holding and sent glitter all over my room.

I was just about to give up and go make dinner. So, I grabbed some of the scrap paper and do what I do when I have no ideas, I make banners. I also got ink on the white card base so you’ll notice a couple of well placed circles on there!

I had actually taken pictures, cleaned up, and nearly walked out of the room when I suddenly decided it needed the black words. I’m so glad I added them, it makes the whole card!

Stamping over an image like that isn’t something I usually do. Maybe I’ll need to try this more often.

The thing I thought was neat was that this card has a lot of white space. The card in my head has zero white space, zero. I’m thinking that maybe my recent practice using white space has creeped into the way I create cards?

Thanks for stoping by today. See you soon!
